On 6 June 2026, the Blue Wave Doctoral Forum was held in Xiamen, China. As part of the World Oceans Day celebrations, the Forum brought together early-career researchers from international large-scale ocean research projects, global research networks, and universities. The Forum was organised as a dedicated of the Blue Wave Conference, co-hosted by IMBeR, which attracted more than 240 participants from 35 countries and regions. Read more

Judith received this distinguished award in recognition of her 35 years of service at HKUST. Over the years, Judith has been an integral part of OCES, consistently demonstrating excellence, reliability, and a positive spirit that has inspired colleagues and enriched the workplace. Read more

Dr. Levy explored how this innovative tool powerfully bridged scientific understanding of ocean conditions with their interdependence on humanity, illustrating its value as an essential resource for policymakers, educators, and the public. Our MPhil student Ziheng Wang has been invited to present his research at the Youth Geoscience Forum held in Guangzhou in April 2026. The forum facilitates intellectual exchanges, builds networks for young researchers, and showcases results from top research universities and institutes in the field of geoscience. Ziheng’s presentation received the Best Presentation Award in his subsection. Congratulations to Ziheng!

Prof. Gan and his group won gold medal in the 51st Geneva Invention for their new digital-twin earth system WavyOcean. This (WavyOcean or 淘海) invention provides a geo-digital twin platform and a method for 3D immersive visualization for the China Seas and western Pacific Ocean, by dynamically integrating geographic information system with 3D multi-sphere (hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere and atmosphere) data of ocean circulation, carbon, biogeochemical variables as well as the related terrestrial and atmospheric variables.
