Exploring Ocean Science @ HKUST: A Day of Discovery and Learning

2025-04-23

We are thrilled to share the success of the “Exploring Ocean Science @ HKUST” one-day program held on April 21 as part of HK SciFest 2025, organized in collaboration with the Hong Kong Science Museum.

The day was filled with engaging activities that highlighted the wonders of ocean science:

  • Coral Restoration Workshop: Participants gained valuable insights into coral reefs and marine conservation, engaging in hands-on activities to learn about coral restoration techniques.
  • Marine VR Experience: Attendees had the opportunity to explore various marine habitats through our Ocean Explorer virtual reality session, featuring breathtaking drone footage from our campus and Port Shelter.
  • Ocean Science Seminar: The seminar, titled “Microbial Mysteries: The Unseen Impacts of Ocean Microbes on Our Climate,” delved into the critical role of tiny ocean microbes in climate regulation and the impact of human activities on these essential creatures.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated! Your enthusiasm for ocean science made the event memorable. We also extend our gratitude to our dedicated students who played a crucial role in ensuring the program ran smoothly. Their ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms greatly enriched the experience for all attendees.

We hope everyone enjoyed the program as much as we did! Stay tuned for more exciting events in the future.

Thank you for your support!
