As part of HKUST Ocean Day 2026, the Department of Ocean Science launched its Educational Cruise Experience on 5 to 7 February 2026, offering students, faculty, and guests a special opportunity to board and explore the Research Vessel SHEN KUO.
During the guided tours, participants explored the research laboratories, living quarters, and work decks. They engaged directly with marine scientists working onboard and gained valuable insights into:
• Vessel operations
• Basic marine research workflows
• How marine data are collected
• Onboard safety awareness
The Educational Cruise Experience exemplified the department’s commitment to experiential learning, connecting classroom theories with real-world practice. The experience enriched students’ understanding of oceanographic research and sparked greater interest in ocean science.
