HKUST OCES, in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in HK and Macao and the HK chapter of the Royal Geographical Society, welcomed two highly experienced French deep ocean explorers from Deep Ocean Search for a sharing session at HKUST. The speakers shared their experiences with shipwreck exploration including treasure hunting in the Atlantic, deep sea archaeology in the Antarctic related to the Edurance22 expedition, disaster recovery in the Mediterranean, and manned deep sea diving in the Phillippines trench. The speakers additionally shared their scientific, professional and personal insights, as well as how they got into this particular career path and the training required. The event was very well received, and attendees and speakers had extended opportunities to interact during the talk, at the Q&A session, as well as after the official event. The event was attended by OCES staff, PGs and UGs, with attendance from other colleagues at HKUST SENG, Global Engagement and Communications Office, representatives from the Consulate Generation of France, as well as the director of the HK chapter of the Royal Geographical Society.
