Big Congratulations to our Final Year Project team entitled “Real-time Detection of Microplastics Using a Smart Fish Model” , comprising CHOW Chun Sing (ENVS/OCES), HO Man Yat (CBME/CBE), CHEUNG King Pok (CEEV/CBE), WONG Pui Him (CEEV/CBE), who are co-supervised by Prof. LAM Leung Yuk Frank (CBE) and Dr. LAM Ka Sin Cindy (OCES), for their championship in the competition of HKIE Best Final-Year Environmental Project 2020.
This excellent achievement recognized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Environmental Division comes with a collective effort by the students between two departments (Department of Ocean Science and Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering). This FYP project is a cutting edge-prototype for the online quantification of microplastics in the ocean. The prototype is capable of collecting the microplastics from the sea surface and quantifying them in the online mode operation. Distribution of the microplastics in the coastal area of Hong Kong, even the Greater Bay Area, can be measured for academic study. This project also shows the significance of the synergy between the Science and Engineering departments.
