In collaboration with Shizuoka University (静岡⼤学), our department held an exchange study tour to Shizuoka, Japan on 24-31 July 2023. A number of 8 OST students have participated in this 8-day study tour with subsidies from the Department of Ocean Science. Established in 1949, Shizuoka University is a national university in Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. Shizuoka Prefecture is rich in agricultural, forestry and fisheries resources, and boasts one of Japan's highest concentrations of food, chemical and biotechnology-related companies.
Our students have received a warm welcome given by the students from Shizuoka University. Various activities such as a wildflowers hike in Umegashima area (梅之島) guided by Shizuoka University Professor, a visit to Kakitagawa (柿田川) spring and Marine Science Center were arranged for students to gain hands-on and multisensory experience with the nature. What's more, our students also had a chance to excursionized Mountain Fuji, which is known as the highest mountain and an active volcano in Japan. Throughout this 8-day exchange tour in Shizuoka, our students have experienced the diversity and Ecosystem in Shizuoka and have a deeper understanding of cultural knowledge in Japan.
