OCES and CBE Undergraduate Students received HKUST President’s Cup - Silver Award

2020-05-04

An Interdisciplinary team consisting of two OCES and three CBE UG students won the Silver Award of the President’s Cup 2020 for their project “Real time Detection of Microplastics Using a Smart Fish Model”. The team was supervised by OCES faculty Dr. LAM Ka Sin Cindy and CBE faculty Dr. LAM Leung Yuk Frank.

The team has developed a “SmartFish” prototype to provide real time monitoring and detection of microplastics in the ocean. This is the first robotic fish swimming untethered in three dimensions for quantitative microplastics detection. With the mature development of intelligent autonomous systems, the fish can shed light in the field of marine monitoring technology and ocean exploration in future.

Team Members:
CHEUNG Tsz Man (ENVS/OCES)
CHOW Chun Sing (ENVS/OCES)
CHEUNG King Pok (CEEV/CBE)
