Ms. RUAN Xi (PhD in Marine Environmental Science, supervised by Prof. Julian Mak), has earned a place in Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship Program 2024.
The Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship allows current research assistants, post-doctorates or doctoral students residing in Hong Kong and Macau from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to spend three months conducting research related to sustainability in a laboratory in France. This mobility grant is funded by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau to promote innovation for a sustainable future in the framework of the HKUST-France Memorandum of Understanding.
The award winning research project description:
Small-scale physical effect on marine ecosystem in the North Atlantic
Project Objectives:
- improve the understanding of small-scale physical processes, and their effects on marine ecosystem in the North Atlantic and global ocean
- constrain the uncertainties induced by under-representing small-scale features in global ocean models and climate projections simulated by those models
- provide insights to improve the current mesoscale/submesoscale parameterisations for reproducing the physical processes in the ocean, with their effects on marine ecosystem
Project time-period: September 2024 – December 2024
Hosting laboratory: Laboratoire d’Océanographie et du Climat: Expérimentations et Approches Numériques (LOCEAN), part of the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL)
Congratulations to Miss RUAN Xi!
