MSc EHS activities: Big Bird Race 2019
23 Feb 2019 (Sat)
6:00pm - 6:00pm
Established in 1984, Big Bird Race is WWF-Hong Kong’s longest-running fundraising event. Funds raised directly contribute to the conservation and management of Mai Po Nature Reserve, a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Generating strong enthusiasm among bird-watchers locally and from overseas, the race has grown in the last three decades. Apart from the pure enjoyment of the competition, participants can also sharpen their bird-watching skills and improve their knowledge of birds.
HKUST Fire Bird Team, formed by 4 MSc EHS students and 1 MSc EHS alumnus, competed in the Big Bird Race 2019 (Professional Race) on 23 February, recording bird species over the course of the 12-hour race all around Hong Kong on the race day. Funds raised by teams directly contribute to the habitat management of Mai Po Nature Reserve, to give birds and other wildlife a better home.
Let’s Cheer Up for the FIRE BIRD TEAM!
We are pleased to share with you the good news that four MSc Environmental Health and Safety students, Mr He Zhongming, Miss Xiao Dian, Miss Zhong Yuxing and Miss Zhang Shuting, leading by our alumni, Mr Lo Chun Fai, won the Most Bird Seen 1st Runner Up and University Cup in the Big Bird Race 2019 with their team named “HKUST Fire Bird”.
